“Gun”

embroidery on cotton, plastic hoop, 2005

"Gun," embroidery on cotton, plastic hoop, 2005

This piece was left on the embroidery hoop to give it an unfinished quality. The gun relates to my personal family mythology and the lack of choices available to my female ancestors. I imagined a woman cross-stitching a gun instead of flowers or some other sugary subject, perhaps as a silent revolt.

This work was displayed at the Corcoran Gallery, D.C. and the Margulies Collection at the Warehouse Miami.
