“Sit Down and Hush Up”

embroidery on linen, 2005

This work was one of my earliest attempts at subverting the medium of embroidery. I was interested in my relationship to the craft as a modern woman and all the baggage and connotations embroidery implies. It is both a bold and a quiet statement at once. My later work also explored the power of embroidery and the juxtaposition of content.

This work was displayed at the Corcoran Gallery, D.C. and the
Margulies Collection at the Warehouse Miami.
